When WhatsApp Support answers with AI: getting help for your business number, spotting fake support, and what WhatsApp collects

When something goes wrong with your business number, the reply from WhatsApp Support may now be written by AI. WhatsApp's Help Center explains how those replies are marked, the only two ways to reach support, why an email to WhatsApp gets no answer, why WhatsApp has no general public support phone number, how to tell the real support account from a scam, how to report a bug from inside the app, what WhatsApp collects when you contact it or report an issue, and what to do if your WhatsApp Business app number is banned.

WhatsApp Support may answer with AI

WhatsApp's Help Center says messages from WhatsApp Support may be generated by artificial intelligence using a secure technology from Meta. You ask your question the way you would ask one of its support agents, and any reply the AI wrote is labelled AI in the message bubble.

Where it works
WhatsApp says the AI version is only available to users in limited countries and for a limited set of support topics, and it might not be available to you yet.
Languages
When we read the page on 13 October 2026, WhatsApp listed 28 supported languages, among them English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Farsi and Malay.
Read receipts
When you chat with WhatsApp Support, you receive read receipts from the chatbot.

AI answers can be wrong

WhatsApp says that at times messages generated by AI might be inaccurate or inappropriate. If you believe an AI reply is incorrect, or you have a problem, you can report it. WhatsApp also recommends checking its Help Center to help resolve the issue.

You can also rate an AI reply. On a phone, tap and hold the reply, then tap the icon shown. On a computer, hover over the reply and click the icon. Then choose Good response or Bad response, add a reason if you are prompted, and submit.

Our reading: check before you act

If an AI reply tells you to change something on the phone that holds your business number, compare it with the Help Center article on the same topic first. WhatsApp itself points you there.

The only two ways to reach WhatsApp Support

WhatsApp suggests browsing the Help Center first. If that does not answer your question, it says the only ways to contact WhatsApp Support are through the app or through the contact form on its website.

In the app
On a phone, open Settings (on Android, through the menu at the top of the app; on iPhone, Settings or your profile picture), then tap Help and feedback, then Help Center, then Contact Us. On a computer, click Settings or your profile picture, then Help and feedback, then Contact Us. Describe the issue in the chat with clear details and attach screenshots, which WhatsApp says helps it resolve the request faster.
On the website
If you cannot open the app, go to the Contact WhatsApp page on the WhatsApp website, click contact us under WhatsApp Support, give clear details, then click Next Step and Send Question.

WhatsApp says response times vary depending on the issue. A request sent through the website form is answered by email.

Emailing WhatsApp gets no answer

WhatsApp says it no longer accepts support requests by email. Its email addresses are not monitored for support requests, so a message sent to any of them will not get a reply from the support team.

WhatsApp adds that if you have seen a support email address recommended on a website, a blog or by an AI assistant, that information is out of date. That is why this guide does not print one.

WhatsApp has no general public support phone number

WhatsApp's Help Center says WhatsApp and the other Meta Company Products do not have general public phone numbers for customer service. It says phone numbers claiming to be for WhatsApp or Meta customer support are potentially scams and should be avoided.

WhatsApp adds one caveat: WhatsApp or Meta might offer specialised phone support in certain regions or with certain products or features. It says the fastest way to find support is its Help Centers: the WhatsApp, Meta, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Business and Workplace Help Centers.

Meta AI
Under Find support, WhatsApp notes that you can also chat with Meta AI, its general AI assistant in WhatsApp, but that this feature is not available to everyone. Meta AI is not WhatsApp Support.
WhatsApp Support
WhatsApp itself is reached through the in-app chat or the contact form on its website, as set out above.
Meta Verified
WhatsApp says creators and businesses that have completed the verification process can access Meta Verified Support for help with account issues, and that Meta Verified subscribers get access to email and chat support. WhatsApp links to Meta's own pages for how creators and businesses reach that support. It is not a reason to write to a WhatsApp email address.
Advertisers
If you advertise with Meta, WhatsApp says you can contact Meta through Meta Business Support Home.

Our reading: a caller who says they are WhatsApp

A phone call, or a number shared in an advert, that claims to be WhatsApp or Meta support fits WhatsApp's own description of a potential scam. WhatsApp does say Meta may offer specialised phone support in some regions or for some products, but a caller or advert is not how you find it; start from a Help Center instead. Tell staff to end the call and contact WhatsApp through the app instead. What Meta Verified includes for a business is in our guide to Meta Verified on the WhatsApp Business app.

How to tell real support from a scam

WhatsApp says that in a chat it will only message you from its official WhatsApp Support account, which is marked with the verified badge and the Official Support Account label. WhatsApp says support emails only come from addresses at its own support domain.

WhatsApp's rule for a fake

If a message claims to be WhatsApp Support but does not have the verified badge or the Official Support Account label, WhatsApp says it is likely a scam. Do not reply. Report the number, block it, or both.

WhatsApp also says it will never ask you for sensitive personal information, your full name, your PIN or payment details.

Our reading: the PIN on your business number

The PIN WhatsApp never asks for includes, in our reading, the two-step verification PIN on your business number. Anyone who asks for it while claiming to be support is not WhatsApp. How that PIN protects the number is in our guide to the two-step password, passkeys and linked-device warnings.

Reporting a bug from inside the app

If something in WhatsApp is not working, the Help Center first suggests its article on fixing issues, and checking that the problem is not your internet connection. If the issue still persists, you can report it to WhatsApp. WhatsApp says it is gradually introducing this feature, so it might not be available to everyone yet.

Where to find it
On Android, open the menu, then tap Settings. On iPhone, tap Settings or your profile picture. Then tap Help and feedback, then Send feedback. On a computer the steps are the same: click Settings, Help and feedback, Send feedback.
What to write
Type the issue in the form and mention what you were trying to do before it happened. WhatsApp says you need to enter at least 10 characters.
Attachments
You can include screenshots or recordings to help WhatsApp understand the problem.
Send
WhatsApp says the report goes to its internal team for further review and troubleshooting.
If you cannot open WhatsApp
Use the Contact WhatsApp page on the WhatsApp website: click contact us under WhatsApp Support, explain the issue in as much detail as you can, then click Next Step and Send Question. WhatsApp says you will get an email from its own support domain asking for more information.

What WhatsApp collects when you contact support

Besides what you write about your issue, WhatsApp says it collects the phone number or email address you contacted it from, so it can get back to you. When you contact support from inside the app, it collects your phone number and may also collect what it needs to understand and resolve the issue:

Phone network
Such as your carrier and network type.
Device
Such as the device type and how much storage space is left.
Device settings
Such as your language and the permissions granted to WhatsApp.
Backup settings
Such as how often you back up and when the last backup ran.
App
Such as the WhatsApp version number.
Logs
Logging information about how features were used, which WhatsApp says helps it understand what might have gone wrong.

When you use the website form, WhatsApp says any extra information you add appears in the contents and attachments of your submission.

WhatsApp has a separate page for bug reports sent from inside the app. It says it collects your phone number and your description of the issue, including any screenshots or recordings you uploaded. It may also collect other information it needs to resolve the problem, which can include: phone network information such as carrier and network type; device information such as device type, app details, operating system version, app version and missing permissions; device settings such as language and the permissions granted to WhatsApp; WhatsApp app information such as the version number; and logging information about how features were used.

Our reading: crop before you attach

On a phone the whole team uses for the business number, a screenshot can show customer names and messages. Anything you attach becomes part of the report, so crop the screenshot to the problem before you send it.

If your WhatsApp Business app number is banned

WhatsApp says a banned number sees a message when the WhatsApp Business app is opened, offering a review and saying most reviews are completed within 24 hours.

Request review
If you think the ban is a mistake, tap Request review in the app. You check the status in the WhatsApp Business app, and the decision arrives as a notification.
No review option
If you do not see an option to request a review, WhatsApp says the ban is final and cannot be appealed.
No shortcuts
Contacting WhatsApp outside the review process, or through another person's account, will not speed up the review or change the decision.
Only WhatsApp decides
WhatsApp says third party services cannot ban your WhatsApp Business account or remove a ban. Only WhatsApp can ban or unban one.
Meta Verified
A banned account automatically loses its Meta Verified subscription.

Bans on the WhatsApp Business Platform follow a different path: WhatsApp points to Meta's developer documentation, which explains them and how to appeal. That ladder and its appeals are in our guide to WhatsApp policy violations, restrictions and appeals. For opening a ticket with Meta yourself on the Business Platform, including billing tickets, see our guide to Meta's Direct Support for businesses onboarded by a provider.

What to settle in your business

Our reading, for the owner

These steps follow from WhatsApp's pages above. They are our suggestions, not WhatsApp's rules.
Who may contact support
Write down which person in the business contacts WhatsApp Support about the business number, so staff know not to answer anyone else who claims to be support.
Codes and PINs stay in-house
Never send the two-step PIN or payment details to anyone who says they are WhatsApp Support; WhatsApp says it never asks for your PIN or payment details. Treat a verification code the same way.
Unban offers are scams
Treat anyone offering to remove a ban or speed up a review as a scam. WhatsApp says only it can ban or unban an account, and that contacting WhatsApp outside the review, or through another person's account, will not speed up the review or change the decision.
Check the badge
Before replying to any support message, look for the verified badge and the Official Support Account label.

Questions

How do I know a support reply was written by AI?

WhatsApp labels replies generated by AI with AI in the message bubble.

Can I email WhatsApp about my business number?

No. WhatsApp says it no longer accepts support requests by email. Use Help and feedback, then Contact Us in the app (on a phone, through Help Center first), or the contact form on the Contact WhatsApp page if you cannot open the app.

Someone messaged us saying they are WhatsApp Support and asked for our PIN. What now?

WhatsApp says it never asks for your PIN, and that a message claiming to be support without the verified badge or the Official Support Account label is likely a scam. Do not reply, and report or block the number.

Is there a WhatsApp phone number we can call?

WhatsApp says WhatsApp and the other Meta Company Products do not have general public phone numbers for customer service, and that phone numbers claiming to be WhatsApp or Meta customer support are potentially scams. It notes that WhatsApp or Meta might offer specialised phone support in certain regions or with certain products. Contact WhatsApp through the app or its website form instead.

Does sending feedback from the app share our customer chats?

WhatsApp says a bug report collects your phone number and your description, including any screenshots or recordings you upload. It may also collect other information it needs to fix the problem, which can include network, device and app details and logs about how features were used. Our reading: customer chats are not among the examples WhatsApp gives. WhatsApp calls them examples, though, not a complete list. A screenshot you attach can show chats, so crop it first.

Can someone get our banned number back faster?

On the WhatsApp Business app, no. WhatsApp says contacting it outside the review process will not speed up the review or change the decision, and that third party services cannot remove a ban.

Want every customer chat in one place your team controls?

We set up a business's WhatsApp number on a system its team runs, so every conversation sits in one inbox the business controls and the whole team can answer from it. A short call is the easiest way to see how that would work for you.
