Guide · WhatsApp Business app · For the shop that sells with photos
Sharp product photos, videos and price-list PDFs from the WhatsApp Business app: HD quality, 2 GB documents, 100 at once, auto-download and a sticker pack with your brand
A product photo that looks sharp on your phone can arrive soft on the customer's, and a file over WhatsApp's size limit won't send. WhatsApp's Help Center has a short article for each part of this: HD quality, the size limits, editing before you send, forwarding, finding a file again, auto-download and stickers. This guide puts them in the order a shop that sells with photos needs them.

First: these pages are about WhatsApp in general
Every article below is written for WhatsApp in general, not only for the WhatsApp Business app. We read ten of them in their Android view and the computer sending page in its web view, all on 15 October 2026, so menu names may differ a little on iPhone.

HD or Standard, for each photo or video
WhatsApp's article About HD photos and videos says you can send a photo or video in high definition by changing its quality setting. In a chat, take or attach the photo or video, tap the quality icon and choose Standard quality or HD quality, then send. WhatsApp says that if you attach an existing photo or video, you don't have to choose.
- HD quality
- How to edit photos and videos says HD quality photos and videos are clearer than Standard quality, but use more data and take longer to send.
- Standard quality
- The same page says Standard quality photos and videos use less data and are sent faster.
- On mobile data
- If you send HD media over your cellular network, a 'Continue without WiFi?' message might appear. Tap Continue to send it anyway.
- Already sent
- You can't upgrade the quality of a photo you've already sent, but you can send it again in HD quality.
- Not for Status or profile pictures
- WhatsApp says HD media isn't currently available for status updates or profile pictures.
The connection still matters
Make HD the default
The same article says you can set HD quality as the default: open WhatsApp Settings > Storage and data > Media upload quality, and select HD quality. You can still send a single item in Standard quality by tapping the quality icon and choosing Standard quality each time.
WhatsApp adds that sending HD media might be faster on WiFi than on your cellular network.

How big, and how many, from the phone
WhatsApp's article How to send media, contacts, or location sets out the limits. To attach something, tap the attach icon in a chat and choose what to send.
- Documents up to 2 GB
- Document lets you pick a document of up to 2 GB from your phone.
- Up to 100 photos
- In Gallery, tap and hold to select up to 100 images.
- Video size
- With a faster internet connection the default video size limit is 100MB at 720p. With a slower connection it is 64MB at 480p.
- Video formats
- Videos should be in one of these formats: 3GP, AVI, FLV, MKV, MOV or MP4.
- Status videos
- Status videos have a maximum duration of 90 seconds.
- Profile picture
- To avoid a low quality profile picture, WhatsApp suggests an image at least 192 pixels in height and width.
The page also says media uploaded to WhatsApp might be lower quality than the original, because media files are usually compressed when shared. Sending a large number of photos at once might cause an issue, so WhatsApp suggests sending fewer at a time. High audio sample rates or professional cameras may be unsupported.

- Pick documents, including PDFs, from your computer, or drag and drop one into the text field. The maximum allowed document size is 2 GB.
- Quality
- To adjust the quality of an attached photo, click the quality icon > Standard quality or HD quality > Done before sending.
The same page says you can preview a PDF in your chat full screen without downloading it, and forward or download it from there. Edit PDF lets you draw, highlight, underline or strike through text, and you can add a caption to share the edited PDF back into the chat. WhatsApp says PDF preview and editing is powered by Adobe Acrobat.

Keep customer photos out of your gallery
WhatsApp's article How to stop WhatsApp from saving media to your phone says WhatsApp automatically saves audio, video and photos sent to your phone, and that Media visibility is turned on by default.

- One chat
- Tap the contact or group name, then Media visibility > No > OK.
WhatsApp's article How to configure auto-download says photos, voice messages, videos and documents can download automatically. Under Settings > Storage and data > Media auto-download there is a separate choice for When using mobile data, When connected on Wi-Fi and When roaming, each with a box for each type of media. YouTube videos can't auto-download, and you can download any photo or video by tapping it.

What sending media costs
WhatsApp's article About WhatsApp charges says WhatsApp doesn't charge for sending messages and media. WhatsApp needs an internet connection through mobile data or Wi-Fi, and your mobile provider's data charges may apply, including when you are roaming. You can check how much data WhatsApp has used under Settings > Storage and data > Network usage.
The auto-download article warns that roaming data is often expensive, and that auto-download while roaming might bring significantly higher charges from your mobile provider.
