Setting up Meta's AI agent from Meta Business Suite: the All tools path, Your info, Test chat, Improve AI response, and the Inbox suggestions that never send themselves
Meta's AI agent for businesses, Meta Business Agent, can be set up from Meta Business Suite as well as from the WhatsApp Business app. Meta's Business Help Center has a set of pages on the Business Suite route: what you need first, where the tool sits, how to teach it and test it as if you were a customer, how to correct a wrong answer, and how to switch it off. The same Inbox also offers Inbox suggestions, a separate feature that Meta says does not send automatically. Here is what those pages say.

What Meta says the agent does
Meta's set-up page says you can set up Meta Business Agent for Messenger or WhatsApp, and that it responds to customers 24/7 and acts like a member of your team, answering questions and recommending products in chats. It learns from your existing business presence across Meta and can also learn from your website or product catalog.
Meta also says the agent will only respond if it can answer the customer's question. If it needs help, you are notified to take over the chat. You can turn it off at any time.

Before you begin
- For WhatsApp
- You need a phone number registered to the WhatsApp Business app. You may need a WhatsApp product catalog; if you do not have one, Meta says you can create one during setup.
- For Messenger
- Your Facebook Page must have messaging turned on. You may need a business portfolio; if you do not have one, Meta says it will create one for you.
What a business portfolio holds and who can get into it is in our guide to a Meta business portfolio for your WhatsApp.
The path in Meta Business Suite
On a computer, open Meta Business Suite, click All tools, then click Meta Business Agent, and go through the set-up steps. On mobile, Meta says to start from Inbox in the Meta Business Suite app.
Meta says the agent will learn from your existing business assets. These may include previous chats on Messenger, what you have shared on your Facebook Page or Instagram profile, and content from your website. Once setup is done, the Home tab inside the Meta Business Agent tool may show next steps to prepare it, and the same tool is where you manage, teach and test it.
- On Messenger
- In the Meta Business Suite Inbox, a chat the agent is actively answering is labelled Business Agent responding.
- On WhatsApp
- In the WhatsApp Business app, messages generated by AI are marked AI.
Teaching it: Your info
Meta's page on teaching and testing the agent is written for Messenger. In Meta Business Suite, go to All tools, then Meta Business Agent, then Your info. From there:
- Add info
- Teach it anything about your business.
- Add price list
- A high-level pricing summary of your products or services.
- Products
- More detail on individual products or services.
- Basic info
- Your business description, contact details and location.
- Purchasing, payments, and shipping
- Your business policies.
- Other info
- What it has learned about other areas of your business. Meta says to review it to make sure it learned correctly.
Testing it: Test chat and Improve AI response
Under Test chat, you chat with the agent as if you were a customer. Click one of the sample customer messages, or type a question a customer might ask, such as your business hours. If the answer is wrong or incomplete, click Improve AI response, give the correct answer or instructions for how it should respond, then click Save.
Once AI replies are on, you can do the same with real chats. In the Meta Business Suite Inbox, open a chat with the AI message you want to improve and click Improve AI response below it.

When you reply yourself, it may remember
Meta says that when you message a customer yourself in a chat where the agent is replying, the agent may save messages that contain new information about your business, and use it for similar messages later.
To remove something it saved, go to Meta Business Agent, then Your info, find it under Other info or with the search bar, open it and click Delete. Your info is also where you can view or edit everything it has learned, whether from you or from your chats with customers.
Meta also says the agent may occasionally message you from its official Facebook Page, asking for details such as your products, prices, return policy or website, asking you to review what it has learned, or asking you to choose chats in which to turn it on.

Products and price lists
Meta's page on product and pricing information, also written for Messenger, gives two ways in from Your info. Products lets you add items one at a time with a name, price and description, and Manage products to keep the list up to date. Price list adds many at once: as an image, as text you type, or as a document uploaded from your device.
- A photo of your price list
- Meta says the agent will analyze the image and extract any text details, and that you should review them and edit as needed.
- On mobile
- Generate product details lets the agent pull details from a product image, or you can type them yourself.
- A document uploaded on a computer
- Meta says you need a computer to view or edit it afterwards.

Switching it off
On a computer, go to Meta Business Suite, All tools, Meta Business Agent, and turn off the Agent is on switch at the top right. In the Meta Business Suite app, go to the Inbox tab, tap the icon Meta's page shows at that step, then open the On dropdown in the top center and turn off Business Agent responses on Messenger.
Meta says the agent then stops responding to customers and stops learning from your chats, and you can switch it back on at any time. It adds a note: messages sent or received in chats with Meta Business Agent connected will still be collected by Meta.
For WhatsApp, Meta's page says you pause or disconnect the agent from the WhatsApp Business app.
Inbox suggestions are not the agent
Meta Business Suite's Inbox has a separate feature called Inbox suggestions. Meta says that while you are talking to a potential customer, it suggests a reply based on the context of your conversation, and you act on it from Inbox. The types Meta lists:
- Confirm a new order
- Mark a purchase as a new order.
- Confirm a payment
- Mark a purchase as paid.
- Save a frequent reply
- Save something you send often to your saved replies. Meta also suggests saved replies you already have when they fit the conversation.
- Suggested FAQs
- If you answer the same question often, Meta may suggest a frequently asked question based on your conversation history. You can edit it before saving, and accept or reject it.
Meta is direct about the difference: Inbox suggestions are not automated responses. They don't send automatically, and you accept or decline each one. You can choose to see them less often when prompted, or pick which ones you see or turn them off in Message settings, opened from the gear icon in Inbox. Meta says these features may not be available in all countries or regions.
Automatic replies and keyword rules in the same Inbox are covered in our guide to answering WhatsApp in Meta Business Suite's Inbox.

Want every customer chat in one place your team controls?
We set up a business's WhatsApp number on a system its team runs, so every conversation sits in one inbox the business controls and the whole team can answer from it. A short call is the easiest way to see how that would work for you.
