Letting an AI assistant run your Meta ads: Meta's ads AI connectors, what they can do and how to block budget changes
Meta now lets an AI assistant work inside a business's ad account: pull reports, build campaigns, edit audiences and catalogs, all from a chat. Meta calls these ads AI connectors. Its Business Help Center explains what a connected assistant can do, and how an owner can block the actions they are not ready to hand over, such as changing budgets. Here is what Meta's pages say.

What Meta released
Meta's Business Help Center describes ads AI connectors as a way to create, manage and analyse Meta ads from an AI assistant, by typing requests in plain language. The connection runs through what Meta calls an ads MCP server. MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, is a common way for AI assistants to use outside systems. Meta lists ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code and Perplexity as supported assistants, and a Meta for Developers post dated 16 July 2026 opened the same server to any developer with their own Meta app.
Meta says any action the assistant takes needs the user's approval through that assistant, and that not every tool is available to every business yet.
What a connected assistant can do
- Reports
- Pull detailed results and explain how campaigns are performing.
- Campaigns and ads
- Create and edit campaigns, ad sets and ads, build image, video and carousel creative, and upload images or videos to the library. Meta says every ad it creates stays paused until someone sets it live.
- Audiences and catalogs
- Create, change and delete custom audiences; create a product catalog, add or remove products, and look into why items are not showing.
- Tracking health
- Check how well the business's ad tracking signals are set up and where to improve them first.
- Tests and history
- Set up and manage A/B tests and lift studies, read the ad account's activity history, and search Meta's Business Help Center.
Blocking what you are not ready to hand over
Someone with full control of the business portfolio can set rules for each ad account or catalog. In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings, then under Integrations choose Ads MCP server, pick the ad account or catalog, and allow or block each action. When some actions are blocked, the screen shows Limited.
Meta gives two examples. Blocking campaign creation means any request from a connected assistant to create a campaign is refused. Budget changes can be blocked completely, or allowed only up to a maximum amount the owner enters. When another business, such as an agency, has been given access to the ad account, the rules it sets apply only to its own people. Meta's developer post adds that developers can now apply these rules to many ad accounts at once.
The same idea exists for WhatsApp: Meta's connector for WhatsApp settings is covered in the WhatsApp tools connector guide, and Meta's own chat helper inside the ad account is described in the business assistant guide.

Questions
Can ChatGPT or Claude run our Meta ads?
Meta's Business Help Center says its ads AI connectors let supported assistants, including ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code and Perplexity, create, manage and analyse Meta ads in plain language, with each action approved through the assistant.
Will an AI assistant publish ads without us checking them?
Meta says every ad created through its ads MCP server is paused by default until someone sets it live.
How do we stop an AI assistant changing our ad budgets?
In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings, then Integrations, then Ads MCP server, choose the ad account and block budget changes, or allow them only up to a maximum amount. This needs full control of the business portfolio.
Can connecting an AI assistant get our ad account banned?
Meta says connecting through its ads MCP server does not on its own put an account at risk; bans usually come from breaking advertising policies, such as running ads that break the rules.
Our agency uses an AI assistant on our ads. Who sets the limits?
Both can. Meta says a business given access to an ad account can set its own rules, which apply only to its own people, while the owner's rules apply to everyone with access.
