Verifying your business with Meta for WhatsApp: the steps in Meta Business Suite, what to prepare and how long it takes

Sooner or later a business on WhatsApp is asked to verify itself with Meta. It is done once, in Meta Business Suite, not in WhatsApp. Here is why it matters on WhatsApp, what Meta's Help Center says to have ready, the steps it lists, and what happens after you submit.

Why it matters on WhatsApp

Meta's WhatsApp pages tie three things to a verified business. It is one way to reach the step of 2,000 new customers a day, explained in the messaging limits guide. It is one of the conditions for the blue tick. And it raises how many message templates a business can keep, from 250 to 6,000 once a number also has an approved display name, as the template guide explains.

Meta's Help Center lists the WhatsApp Business Platform among the products that may require verification. What Meta checks is that the business is registered with the local authorities, has an official phone number or mailing address, and that the person verifying can receive a code at the business's phone or email, or prove the business owns its website's domain.

What to have ready

Full control of the business portfolio
Meta's highest permission level. Only someone with it can start verification. If you cannot open Security Center in Meta Business Suite, you probably do not have it.
Details that match exactly
The legal business name, address, phone number and website, entered exactly as they appear for the registered business.
A website that loads securely
Meta says the website must load and use a secure connection, with an address that starts with https.
Documents, if Meta cannot find you
When no matching record turns up, Meta may ask for official documents such as a business licence or articles of incorporation.

The steps Meta lists

  1. On a computer, open Security Center in Meta Business Suite.
  2. Click Start verification. If it says Ineligible for verification, Meta says you do not need to verify there; a product that needs verification will tell you separately, by email or notification.
  3. Enter the business details and check they match the registered business.
  4. Confirm the details. If Meta shows no match, choose My business isn't listed or None of these match, and upload the documents it asks for.
  5. Choose how to confirm your connection to the business: email, phone call, text message, WhatsApp message, or verifying the website's domain.
  6. Confirm the connection and click Done.

What else is in Security Center

Meta's article on Security Center says it is reached from Settings in Meta Business Suite, and that security alerts needing attention appear at the top of the business portfolio's home page until they are dealt with. Besides the verification status and business details, it is where to require two-factor authentication, so everyone must enter a code each time they log in to the portfolio from a new device. Meta describes that as a requirement for portfolios 90 days or older and recommends it for everyone with access. It is also where to add another person with full control, so that if one person leaves, someone else can keep running the portfolio. Our reading: add that second person while you are there, because only someone with full control can start verification.

After you submit

Meta says a decision can take up to 14 business days, and you are notified when the review is done. If the business details are edited later, verification has to be done again. Meta also warns that false or misleading information can stop a business being verified or remove its verified status.

Not the same as a badge

Meta's page says business verification is different from Meta Verified for businesses and does not give a verified badge. On WhatsApp, the blue tick is a separate request, and verification is only one of its conditions.

Meta's troubleshooting article gives these reasons for a rejected submission:

Information that does not hold up
False or misleading details, or details Meta suspects are.
The wrong person
Trying to verify a business you do not own or are not authorised to represent.
Getting round the review
Any attempt to work around Meta's verification checks.
A website that fails
One that does not load, does not use a secure https connection, or has a link that leads to an error message.

A rejected business may be able to appeal. Meta says to check the status in Security Center, or on the platform where verification started, such as Commerce Manager.

For a business setting up WhatsApp on Meta's developer platform, there is also an AI route to answers. In May 2026 Meta added its AI developer assistant to the WhatsApp Business onboarding flows for developers and tech providers, with verification requirements and common blockers among the topics it covers. In August 2026 Meta made the same assistant the main way into its developer support page, where a question such as how to complete business verification returns the requirements, the documents needed and known issues. Meta said the rollout would reach all developers by mid-September 2026.

Our reading: answers, not approval

The assistant explains Meta's requirements; nothing in Meta's posts says it reviews or approves a submission. Treat its answer as a checklist, then submit in Security Center and wait for Meta's decision as above.

Questions

Should more than one person have full control of our business portfolio?

Meta's Security Center article says it is helpful, so that if one person leaves, someone else can keep up the administrative duties. A second person with full control is added from Security Center, in Settings in Meta Business Suite.

Can Meta's AI assistant help with business verification?

It can answer questions about it. Meta's AI developer assistant sits in the WhatsApp Business onboarding flows for developers and, since August 2026, at the front of Meta's developer support page, and Meta lists business verification steps, documents needed and known issues among what it covers. Nothing in Meta's posts says it reviews or approves a submission; the decision still comes from Meta's verification review.

How long does Meta take to verify a business?

Meta's Help Center says a decision can take up to 14 business days, with a notification when the review is complete.

Does business verification give us the blue tick on WhatsApp?

No. Meta says verification gives no badge. The WhatsApp blue tick is a separate request, and a verified business is one of its conditions.

Meta rejected our business verification. What now?

Check the reason first: Meta lists misleading details, verifying a business you cannot represent, and a website that does not load, lacks https or has a broken link. A rejected business may be able to appeal from Security Center or the platform where it started.

What documents does Meta ask for?

Only when it cannot match your details to a record. Meta's examples are a business licence or articles of incorporation.

We changed our business address after verifying. Do we verify again?

Yes. Meta says editing the business details means completing verification again.

Want every chat in one place you own?

We set up a business's WhatsApp number on a system its team runs, so every customer conversation sits in one place the business owns. A short call is the easiest way to see how that would work for you.
