Meta One on the WhatsApp Business app: what the subscription adds, and what it does not change

Meta now offers a subscription called Meta One inside the WhatsApp Business app, the free app many small businesses run on a single phone. An owner who spots it in the Tools tab will ask three things: what it buys, whether it replaces Meta Verified, and whether it matters for a business that has connected a proper system to WhatsApp. Meta's own Meta One page answers all three.

What Meta One is

Meta describes Meta One as an optional subscription inside the WhatsApp Business app. It is bought per business profile or phone number, not per company, so a business with two numbers subscribes twice. Eligible new subscribers may get a 7-day free trial, and Meta says the subscription then starts automatically unless it is cancelled. Plans, benefits and availability vary by region, by app and by account, and Meta says the way to see what a particular account gets is to start the subscription in the app.

What Meta lists in it

Protecting the brand
A verified badge, verified channels, a custom web address, protected accounts and impersonation protection. Meta marks the badge and the verified channels as varying by region and account. Meta's Meta One article says impersonation protection, for eligible verified businesses, watches for accounts pretending to be the business and removes those Meta judges to be impersonating it, while protected accounts let the business name its other accounts so they are not flagged by mistake.
An AI agent on the number
Meta Business Agent, which Meta says answers customers around the clock, books appointments and captures leads. The free app includes a monthly allowance of Business Agent responses, and Meta One plans add more.
How the business looks
A custom app icon, app themes, exclusive stickers and more pinned chats.
Essential
Meta's announcement of 15 September 2026 names four plans for businesses and creators. Essential adds more Meta Business Agent access on WhatsApp to answer customers around the clock, a verified badge, a verified channel on the WhatsApp Business app and impersonation protection, the last three once verification succeeds.
Advanced
Lets team members use the account without sharing its password, and adds more linked devices and business broadcast credits on WhatsApp, more Business Agent responses, post scheduling and exportable analytics.
Expert and Max
Meta says these carry its highest levels of feature access and Business Agent capacity, for teams managing at scale.

WhatsApp's own Help Center adds the limits on the AI agent part. Meta Business Agent is not available in every country, and a plan that lists it does not guarantee access to it. What a business can actually get shows in the WhatsApp Business app under Settings, then Subscriptions. When the app's included responses run out, the choice is a plan for more or waiting for the allowance to refresh. Where the agent is not available, Meta says the plan's other benefits are not affected.

What changes in the chats when the agent is on

The same article says away messages and similar automations pause while the agent is answering and resume once it leaves the chat. Customers see a line saying the business uses AI from Meta and can ask for a person at any time. The owner can take over any chat, and gets a notification when the agent decides a customer needs attention.

What it does not change

The free app
Meta says the WhatsApp Business app stays free. Messaging, profile management and the core tools are not changing, and the subscription is optional.
Meta One on a personal phone
WhatsApp's Help Center has a separate page on Meta One plans for personal accounts, whose AI extra is higher limits for making AI images and videos. It says those plans are only on ordinary WhatsApp, not on the WhatsApp Business app, only in some locations, in English for now, and only on official versions of WhatsApp. An offer seen on a personal phone is a different subscription from the business one.
Meta Verified, for now
Meta says it is bringing the best of Meta Verified into Meta One. For businesses already paying for Meta Verified nothing changes yet: Meta says it is working on its migration plans and has promised to tell subscribers when they can switch.
A connected system
Meta's page says Meta One does not change the functionality or pricing of the WhatsApp Business Platform, the route a connected system uses. A business on the Platform is charged the way the pricing guide describes, subscription or not.

The charges on the Platform are in the pricing guide, and Meta's AI agent on a Platform number has its own guide.

Two badges, two routes

The verified badge in Meta One is not the same process as the badge on the WhatsApp Business Platform. On the Platform, Meta calls the badge an Official Business Account and grants it after a review against its conditions, with no purchase step, and it does not grant it to WhatsApp Business app numbers. In the app, Meta Verified is the paid route: Meta's app features page lists a checkmark badge, impersonation protection, priority email and chat support, and linking up to 10 devices and agents to the account. Meta One is where those benefits are moving.

The Platform route is explained in the verified badge guide.

Questions
